Found trolling craigslist aimlessly today at work....
73k miles, garage kept, clean carfax, only $5,500. What could go wrong?
Now I know that SUV's don't get much love on Oppo, but my mother's Honda Pilot is starting to have some issues. Seeing as my little brother (Who is still in high school) is the one who would inherit this car as a daily driver, this car is a tantalizing low-priced deal for a car he would love. Space for his friends, safe, and looks badass. I know Range Rovers are renowned for their reliability issues..... but really, how bad could it be?

There is no way it's 5,500. We would sell that for 28k at the stealership I work at.

Depends on the ad. It could be a great opportunity, or it could be too good to be true. If it is legitimate and the car is as advertised, then it's a definite NP. Your brother will look like a douche and probably pay for some pretty big repair bills, but it's still worth pursuing.

5.5k for this?!?!? DEF a NP even with the bs SUV and gas mileage, I would buy this for a daily driver no doubt.

I think there is supposed to be a 2 or a 3 on the front of that number.
If not, then it probably needs an entire drivetrain... and interior.
And needs a 20 or 30K repair regimen after paying the 5.5K.

So it's either a scam or it's seriously flawed. Like being used as an engine donor-flawed.

Yes possibly. Or they are very dumb and you are the luckiest man on earth.

Bad.... very bad.
I don't have a lot of experience with Range Rover, but a buddy of mine had one. He only had it for 6 months or so and it was in the shop at least half the time he owned it.

Check about the diffs. They would go FAST on the early RRS and are expensive to replace.

Too good to be true man. Pay a mechanic to inspect every last nut and bolt if you want to take a shot at it. But if it's good it's a no-brainer.

That thing is either stolen or missing an engine.

I keep an eye on first gen sport prices. Because one day. And that is missing a 2.

Email that I received in response has me seriously questioning the legitimacy of this car. :
Hi, I've received your email regarding the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Supercharged with 74,000 miles on it, SUV, automatic, gasoline, engine: 4.2L, 8 cylinders. The car is still for sale and my asking price is $5500. It is a 2006 model loaded with everything. You have here the VIN # to see that everything is like I said: salsh234x6a959445. The car is very well maintained and it has just been completely serviced. The engine runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. The car is in perfect condition with clear title, no accidents, no liens or loans. I'm an oceanographer and I'm on sea at this moment, so I left the car in Marlboro, MD, at the shipping company, it's already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere.
Let me know if you are still interested.

This whole oceanographer thing is setting off a lot of alarms. What kind of oceanographer would drive a blacked out range rover sport????

Contacted the seller and they confirmed the price. However they said they are an oceanographer and that the car is in Maryland, when the ad was listed in Massachusetts. My scam alarms are going off. Besides what kind of oceanographer would drive a blacked out range rover sport??

No way in hell I would replace a Honda Pilot "that's starting to have some issues" with any kind of Land Rover product.
Even if you found a reliable one, the scheduled maintenance costs would be significantly higher than the Honda.

Yeah, has to be a scam. The only sports I have seen under 20k are wrecked ones. Although if legit it's the steal of the century.

I thought everyone knew about these scams already? This is a classic craigslist scam. They are always priced super low because they can't meet you to show you the car. They always work out of the country, and they price them so low that you are tempted to fork over money without even seeing the car. It's bogus
